Norm Cates, Jr. is the Founder of Club Insider, now in its 30th year of publication, and its Tribal Leader Since 1993. He is a 50-year veteran of the health, racquet and sportsclub industry. As IHRSA’s First President and a Co-Founder of the Association with Rick Caro and five others, in 1981; the 2001 DALE DIBBLE Distinguished Service Award winner, one of IHRSA’s highest honors; and Club Industry's Lifetime Achievement Award winner in 2017, Norm Cates, Jr. is a highly decorated veteran who cares about you. IHRSA31 Los Angeles a Huge Success!
March 2012 - It all started 31 years ago when we had our first IHRSA Convention and Trade Show at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas. There, a handful of club owner/operators came together from the tennis (NTA) and racquetball club (NCCA) worlds to form what was then called the International Racquet Sports Association (IRSA). In Touch With Brent Darden, IHRSA's Interim President and CEO
September 2020 - In the very beginning, nearly 40 years ago, IHRSA was launched without the "H" for Health in the name, making the acronym: IRSA. The Association was and has continued to be a labor of love for my good friend, Rick Caro, and me. IRSA was Rick's idea, and we are all very fortunate that Rick dreamed up this special Association. At that time, in 1981, Rick was actually serving as a Board Member on two national Associations: the National Tennis Association (NTA) and the National Court Club Association (NCCA). So, via a phone call with me one night, Rick suggested the great idea of merging the two associations. I thought it was truly a genius idea, and I told him so immediately. There we were! July 2018 - Tom Henderson, a good friend and one of my high school classmates at Rome Free Academy (RFA) in Rome, New York, agreed to participate in this interview. We explored several different motivational concepts and manpower development ideas that Tom used for decades to help train and encourage his associates in the competitive insurance and investment business. One of the ideas that we touched on during our discussion was The KASH Formula. This acronym stands for Knowledge, Attitude, Skills and Habits. These are the four building blocks in the development of any successful business, and Tom taught these principles to his many associates at the Equitable Life Assurance Society during his highly successful career.
